Description

The College Foundation of the University of Virginia, which exists to support the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, is conducting a search for a Director of Engagement and Annual Giving.

 

The Director of Engagement and Annual Giving is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the annual giving operation with the aim to grow annual giving dollars and participation through direct mail, email and social media, the phone-a-thon program, leadership annual giving society and other mass appeal program(s) that seek to gain philanthropic support from alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends.

Job Duties

Annual Giving Communication Development and Execution

  1. Develops and manages all strategies and tactics to support the College Fund’s unrestricted and restricted fundraising goals for gifts under $2,500 and for leadership annual giving above $2,500.
  2. Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive annual giving solicitation and segmentation plan across a variety of channels including direct mail, email, web, social media, phone-a-thon, and volunteer efforts.
  3. Responsible for strategic and conceptual development of messages for annual giving solicitations, social media, and internally- and externally-facing websites.
  4. Serves as the primary staff liaison to University Annual Giving and University Advancement Digital Strategy.
  5. Participates as needed on any key leadership committees across Grounds.
  6. Manages creative staff and vendors for all annual giving and website needs.
  7. Budget management and evaluation of Annual Giving and Agency Services budget.
  8. Supervises student workers as needed.
  9. Undertakes project management and other duties as needed as assigned by President of the College Foundation, CMO, Vice President of Administration, and Vice President of Development.

Supervision of Engagement and Annual Giving Staff

  1. Facilitate a direct, collegial, and innovative environment that allows staff to perform effectively and efficiently. Provide guidance to employee(s) as needed, help set workload priorities, assist with duties as needed, and serve as a backup when person is absent. Create and communicate clear expectations and channels for dealing with employee suggestions, concerns, and ideas.
  2. Ensure all performance evaluations recommendations for reward and recognition, salary adjustments and other personnel management documents are completed in a timely manner and are clear and robust in both form and substance.
  3. Manage all employee relations issues with the help of the Director of Finance and Human Resources as needed. Oversee the search for new staff according to the College Foundation policy and procedure.

Skills Required

Work Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience required; master’s degree in business administration with a marketing concentration preferred.
  • Four or more years’ experience in educational or non-profit fundraising, marketing, communication or a related field required, with significant experience in annual giving, in creating direct response mail and email content, and in managing social media campaigns preferred.
  • Experience with software and systems that facilitate donor tracking, data analysis, image editing and graphic design is desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to forge relationships deep project management skills, excellent organization capability, and computer skills are essential.
