Lead Virginia’s director of development will identify, build and steward significant partnerships each year with new and existing corporate and philanthropic partners, foundations and other major gift sources. Importantly, this role will seek significant partnerships to celebrate Lead Virginia’s 20th anniversary and secure critical long term financial sustainability for the organization. Additionally, the director of development will provide messaging, coordination and execution of an annual fund campaign, a significant source of support for Lead Virginia’s mission. Working collaboratively with the president & CEO, board and staff, this individual will be an instrumental team member in support of continued successful outcomes of Lead Virginia’s programs.

The Director of Development will work collaboratively with the Lead Virginia team, alumni, board and fundraising campaign cabinet members to build Lead Virginia’s base of corporate and alumni support; will identify potential corporate and philanthropic partners with whom Lead Virginia can collaborate regionally and statewide; will coordinate and assist with fundraising to support all Lead Virginia programming and events. The position is also responsible for preparing reports, developing, and monitoring budgets, organizing, and preparing agendas for development committee and campaign cabinet meetings and conference calls, supporting the board in its fundraising outreach and leadership. The Director of Development will assist with other duties as necessary as an important member of the Lead Virginia team. This position reports to the President & CEO of Lead Virginia.

Job Duties

JOB SUMMARY
• Responsible for the preparation of an overall development plan and the planning and execution of Lead Virginia’s annual fundraising strategy to include class program support, annual fund campaigns and special events.
• Working collaboratively with Lead Virginia’s board, leadership and staff team, responsible for planning, oversight and execution of Lead Virginia’s fundraising campaigns.
• Coordination of support systems for the annual and special anniversary campaign’s leadership teams, to include identifying a campaign cabinet, preparation of materials and
correspondence, scheduling meetings for board and campaign cabinet member and president & CEO attendance at donor meetings; tracking and attending meetings and ensuring appropriate follow up of action items. • Providing regular reports on activity and outcomes.
• Researching and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
• Writing corporate and grant proposals and tracking outcomes.
• Creating and executing a donor stewardship plan with the CEO and board leadership.
• Ability to nurture and steward donor relationships, including cultivation and solicitation and providing reports for tracking and recognition.
• Ensuring invoicing and fulfillment of pledges and invoices

Skills Required

– Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising or similar experience preferred.
– Dedication to the mission of Lead Virginia and a strong desire to meet and exceed the organization’s annual fundraising goals.
– Fundamental knowledge of fundraising practices, soliciting and closing major gifts.
– Experience with a major gift fundraising campaign is preferred.
– Able to work independently, with initiative and attention to detail.
– Strong communication skills to articulate Lead Virginia’s mission, including writing, speaking and presentations.
– Ability to multi-task and collaborate as a team member with staff and alumni volunteers.
– Lead Virginia team members work with hybrid schedules, both in office and remotely.
– Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm.
– Overnight travel is required to attend regional class sessions and occasional alumni events.
