The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF) empowers Virginians impacted by breast cancer through access, advocacy, education, and community action. We are a statewide, state-based 501c3 headquartered in Richmond. We raise our funds annually through the generosity of Virginians and their loved ones to support our programs. VBCF is seeking a full-time Director of Development to plan and execute mission-focused fundraising activities to recognize and retain our current donors, including individuals, small businesses, corporations and grantmakers, and increase and diversify our future supporters. VBCF’s budget is approximately $1 million annually.

This full-time, exempt, salaried position will report to our Executive Director and work closely with our current team of five. The anticipated salary hiring range is $75,000 – $90,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance (with fully covered employee premiums); annual accrued paid vacation, personal use, and holiday time totaling 39 days; a retirement plan with 3% employer match contributions; and more. VBCF’s main office is in Richmond, and VBCF is seeking a candidate residing in Virginia. Hybrid to remote work schedule based on candidate location with travel throughout the state anticipated.

Job Duties

Strategic Planning: Develop, implement, analyze, and improve annual strategic fundraising campaigns aligned with VBCF’s mission, programs, and strategic plan goals.
Major Donor Cultivation: Steward existing and cultivate new relationships with major donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, to secure significant financial support for VBCF.
Individual Giving Programs: Identify, develop, retain, and expand peer-to-peer giving programs, including annual fund appeals, monthly giving, regional campaigns, donor stewardship, and planned giving initiatives.
Corporate Partnerships: Cultivate and maintain relationships with corporate partners and sponsors, develop sponsorship packages, and coordinate corporate giving campaigns and events.
Special Events: Plan, organize, and execute VBCF’s signature fundraising events, including our Power of Pink Richmond and Roanoke fall luncheons, Pink 13.1 Walk/Run/Bike in Abingdon, and other special events with the help of volunteer committees.
Donor Communications: Develop effective communication strategies to engage donors, share impact stories, and steward donor relationships through newsletters, emails, social media, and other channels.
Database Management: Ensure accurate and up-to-date donor records and data management in the organization’s donor database. VBCF’s platforms include DonorPerfect and QGiv software.
Budgeting and Reporting: Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and manage the development budget, track fundraising metrics, and provide regular reports to the Board of Directors on fundraising progress and outcomes.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders to maximize fundraising opportunities and achieve fundraising goals.
Ambassadorship: Promote and ensure a positive presence in the community through media relations and outreach activities and collaboration with strategic partners.
Supervision: It is anticipated that this position will help to recruit and supervise a fund development support staff position.

Skills Required

Passion for VBCF’s mission and programs supporting all Virginians affected by breast cancer.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of successful major gifts solicitation and fundraising event management.
Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate VBCF’s mission and impact to diverse audiences.
Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate and steward donor relationships effectively.
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop, implement, and analyze fundraising strategies and plans.
Proficiency in donor database management and fundraising software. Experience with DonorPerfect and/or QGiv software a plus.
Travel throughout Virginia is required, with limited overnights. Evening and weekend work is anticipated with advance notice.
