Description
Innisfree Village is now accepting applications for the position of Director of Development. In assuming this newly created role, you will be a key member of the administrative team, carrying out and refining the organization’s recently adopted development plan, and managing all aspects of the development program – Innisfree Village Fund, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Donor Relations, Special Campaigns, Fundraising Events and Corporate and Foundation Giving. With a results-oriented and enthusiastic temperament, you will aim to successfully achieve the organization’s fundraising goals to further the mission of Innisfree Village. In addition to strong management skills, you must be a strategist and eager to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members and members of the community. The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with the administrative team, the Development Committee and Board of Directors.
Job Duties
- Implementing the recently adopted Development Plan, making observations and recommendations to refine it over time.
- Leading the Development Committee, organizing their involvement in development activities, and reporting to the Board.
- Coordinating fundraising for Innisfree Village – identifying, cultivating, and soliciting contributions, sponsorships, and major gifts as part of annual fundraising; planning, coordinating and leading events; and organizing and facilitating capital campaigns.
- Identifying grant prospects and preparing proposals for operating and special projects grants, and cultivating and maintaining relationships with foundations.
- Expanding our impactful, small, but devoted donor base to a wider community.
- Managing stewardship of donors, acknowledgments, gift processing and database maintenance.
- Working with staff colleagues to ensure regular outreach on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Blogs, etc.).
- Participating in public events, speaking engagements, exhibits, workshops and conferences to increase awareness of Innisfree Village.
- Assisting with writing and design of newsletter, appeals, and other printed materials.
- Meeting regularly with the Executive Director to ensure communication and alignment with community stakeholders.
- Managing development budget and expenses in collaboration with the Executive Director and Finance Director.
Skills Required

- Bachelor’s degree required, Graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of professionalexperience in development/fundraising.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in use of fundraising databases, donor research tools, Microsoft Office programs, Google platforms and digital communication tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience soliciting major gifts.
- The ability to work well with donors, stakeholders, and colleagues with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and personalities.
- The ability to work well independently and collaboratively to successfully see projects through to completion.
Work Schedule
M-F, 9-5. Some flexibility for special events.

About Innisfree Village
Innisfree Village is a nonprofit organization situated on a 550-acre farm in Crozet, Virginia, near the City of Charlottesville. Since 1971 Innisfree has fulfilled its mission as a community with adults with intellectual disabilities, dedicated to providing a lifesharing home and work environment in an atmosphere of beauty, warmth, and respectfulness. All community members are valued, and all are encouraged to explore and contribute to a meaningful and challenging life. We are a thriving community of 40 coworkers with disabilities, ranging in age from 21 to 80, and between 25 to 30 volunteers and staff, all living in 15 homes on our farm in Crozet, VA and one home in Charlottesville. Volunteers are recruited from all over the world and commit a minimum of one year of service, living and working within the community. All community members engage together in meaningful work throughout the Village, including on the farm, in the gardens, the bakery, woodshop, weavery, and art studio.
