Location: Lynchburg/Richmond, Hybrid

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,500

Summary:

Are you an experienced communications professional with a passion for storytelling and leading impactful teams? HumanKind is seeking a Director of Communications to drive strategic messaging and elevate the organization’s presence across all channels.

As a key member of the Leadership Team, this role will work directly with the Chief of Development, the President’s Team, and the Board of Directors to craft and execute comprehensive communication strategies that inspire donors, engage stakeholders, and support the organization’s mission. You’ll oversee a talented, tight-knit team and collaborate closely with program leaders to align communication efforts with organizational goals.

This position is ideal for a dynamic leader who thrives on collaboration, is highly organized, and has a proven ability to create compelling campaigns in the nonprofit space.

Job Duties

Success In This Role Looks Like:

– Developing and implementing strategic communication plans that align with organizational objectives and engage diverse audiences.
– Leading and mentoring a talented communications team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
– Ensuring consistency of brand, message, and style across all internal and external communications.
– Overseeing the creation of impactful donor communications, including appeals, newsletters, and the annual report.
– Driving engagement through multi-channel content, including social media, print, video, and digital platforms.
– Managing media coverage, serving as agency spokesperson when needed, and building strong relationships with external partners.
– Collaborating on fundraising event strategies, such as the Lynchburg Turkey Trot, to meet and exceed revenue goals.
– Building relationships with corporate sponsors and community partners to secure sponsorships and in-kind donations.
