Description

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and measuring all marketing strategies, communications and initiatives for the VAF. This includes print, email, video, audio, LED, social media, e-commerce and research. This individual will support and oversee the development and implementation of materials for the VAF and direct our marketing, communications and social media efforts in a manner that aligns with current branding, the athletics department and that tells the “VAF / athletics story.”

Job Duties

  • Create, implement and measure an annual, comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that helps the VAF reach its goals and aligns the VAF with UVA athletics
  • Implement this annual strategy by planning, creating, writing and designing all marketing and communications efforts for the VAF
  • Coordinate design, editorial, production and distribution for all of the VAF’s marketing and communication efforts
  • Work within VAF and University databases to help define, segment and evaluate prospects and donors
  • Create and update an annual communications and events calendar for VAF, updating the athletics calendar with relevant information
  • Manage relationships with all marketing and communications vendors including website, design, print and mailing companies
  • Support the Annual Fund and Stewardship teams and other staff members in their efforts to communicate with donors and prospects
  • Manage the ongoing development and maintenance of marketing content on the website
  • Work closely with VAF team members to establish marketing strategies and goals that generate new prospects, strengthens relationships with donors and helps grow donation levels from existing donor base
  • Work with the VAF staff, athletics Promotions, Video Services and Media Relations teams to produce marketing and communications pieces
  • Record and edit final marketing and communications pieces
  • Stay informed at all times on the details of VAF special events, athletics contests, etc.
  • Attend VAF and athletics events in order to record material that can be used in marketing and communications pieces
  • Thoroughly learn, understand and implement email platforms including FanOne
  • Thoroughly learn, understand and have the ability to work in databases including Paciolan, Advance, Salesforce, Evertrue and others
  • Develop, maintain and manage the budget for our marketing and communications efforts
  • Stay informed of developments in the fields of marketing and communications, especially as they relate to fundraising. This includes how similar university athletics teams market and communicate their missions.
  • Quantify and evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and collateral including the appeal of design, improvements needed, response rates and success
  • Other projects or assignments as needed throughout the year

Skills Required

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing and communications activities
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience writing marketing, communications and social media pieces
  • Demonstrated experience in filming / recording / editing video and audio pieces / graphic design/ photography
  • Strong management skills with outside vendors
  • Enjoy interacting with people
  • Enjoy being part of a team approach to work
  • Exhibit professional and friendly demeanor
  • Enjoy athletics in general
  • Be prompt and dependable
  • Demonstrate flexibility
  • Have above average computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office, video and audio applications
  • Have familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro
  • Have familiarity with Google Analytics, Facebook ads and other social media platforms
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with all constituencies
  • Be respectful of sensitive and confidential information
  • Complete all projects efficiently, accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Know and understand general office procedures
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-starting/self-management and initiative
  • 4-year college degree required
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in marketing and communications related fields
