Description

Digital Intern

The Digital Internship program at SELC provides the opportunity to be an integral part of a communications team working to educate, engage, and mobilize online audiences on a full range of environmental issues of particular importance to the South—clean air, clean and adequate water, energy, forests, coasts, and communities.

The Intern can expect to assist with online community management, copy-writing for social media and advocacy emails, inventorying and collaborating on design assets, reporting on key metrics, and general digital maintenance. From campaigns to protect clean water, defeat the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, or regulate dangerous coal ash pits to advancements in clean energy and the fight to slow climate change, the Intern will be working to communicate on some of the most pressing environmental issues and innovative solutions to drive people to action. In addition to communications work, the Intern will participate in strategy sessions and periodic seminars to learn more about environmental policy and how digital strategies can be leveraged to support legal advocacy.

This position is based out of the SELC headquarters in Charlottesville, VA and will be hired for a three-month internship starting February 1 through May 1, 2018.

Criteria for Consideration:

  • Strong writing skills. You’ll need to distill complex legal issues in 280 characters or less
  • Social media wiz. You know what audiences are on what platforms and the creative that engages them
  • Data driven. You understand that a pithy subject line is only as good as its open rate
  • Thirst for news. You pride yourself on being the first in your feed to post the latest breaking environmental updates
  • Willingness to learn. You don’t need to know it all, but you’ve got to be interested in learning with us!

Salaries for Interns: The Digital Intern will receive $12 per hour for 5-10 hours per week from SELC for the three months.
