The Digital Arts Manager’s primary roles are to produce digital content, teach video production techniques, and maintain the Digital Arts Lab for the BrightLights Education Initiatives of Richmond Performing Arts Alliance. The Digital Arts Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Education & Community Engagement, Education staff, and the Education Committee to develop strategies and policies regarding the Digital Arts Lab and digital media. This individual is responsible for all aspects of the digital video equipment, video production courses, and organizing the archive of all produced digital media. The Digital Arts Manager is responsible for supporting the education & community engagement team’s efforts to cultivate relationships with schools, resident companies, and other organizations in regard to video and digital media needs.
Job Duties
Job responsibilities (included, but not limited to):
Teaching and Instruction
● Continues and/or develops a variety of video production courses/workshops for students in grades 6 – 12. This includes semester-long courses and summer opportunities where appropriate.
● Create syllabus & corresponding lesson plans for video production courses
● Select, mentor, and train students for the Digital Arts Lab internship program.
● Select successful candidates for the Digital Arts Lab scholarship program.
● Manage class registration process, scheduling and workload.
Produce and Direct
● Leads the creation of videos and digital media such as single-camera short features, multi-camera live stream productions, and two-way “Chat-Backs.” Productions relate to RPAA programs, collaborations with resident companies, or projects with other organizations/clients.
● Creates video production budgets based on the needs of the organization/client.
● Maintains archived and online digital video databases.
● Continues to utilize appropriate productions for students to gain hands-on experience as crew.
Ongoing Operations and Maintenance
● Maintains all equipment and operations in the Digital Arts Lab & recording studio. Oversees all purchases and plans for future digital media needs.
● Develop an annual maintenance and upgrade plan and the requisite budget necessary to support those plans and continued operations. As part of a team with the Director of Education & Community Engagement, Education staff, and Education Committee.
● Acts as a collaborator with the Director of Education & Community Engagement and the Development staff in the areas of grant writing, related grant media, grant report input and review, and presenting grant proposals as a team member when requested and needed.
● Assumes other duties as assigned based on the organization’s needs and goals.

● Experience with software and hardware (Apple computers, Adobe Creative Cloud, iMovie, Video Switchers, Audio, HD Cameras, etc.).
● Knowledge of and experience with free online digital tools available to students for creating content.
● Well organized and able to multitask.
● Knowledge of program connections to classroom applications and curricula.
● Extensive knowledge of copyright issues as they relate to video and educational use.
● Presentation and Communication Skills – demonstrating the ability to express ideas effectively whether face-to-face or in writing in both individual and group situations, and that presentations are conveyed clearly and concisely to the audience. Adjusts tone and terminology to the needs of the audience.

Skills Required
Education and Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree
● Experience in teaching video production with an understanding of media literacy, K-12 teaching, or related and applicable experience in the education field
● Advanced experience with Apple computers and applications.
● Strong background in professional video producing, directing, editing, single-camera and multi-camera productions.
● Experience operating video cameras and a full understanding of proper operation and a solid foundation of video production techniques.
● Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
● Analytical and problem-solving skills.
● Strong written and oral communication skills.
● Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standard industry technical journals to stay current with trends.
● Keep current on advancements in technology, new software applications, and best practices.
