Description
The Thomas Jefferson Foundation is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Controller. This position reports to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, supervises a staff of five, and serves as a key member of the senior management team. The position directs accounting department functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, endowment and investment accounting, and grants administration and is responsible for accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules. Other duties include the direction of the annual financial statement audit, preparation of IRS forms 990 and 990-T, coordination and distribution of the annual operating budget, and preparation of financial models and analyses. The Controller also ensures the maintenance of processes and procedures which ensure strong internal controls and has responsibility for general ledger structure and the optimization of financial software.
Located in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. is the private nonprofit organization that owns and operates Monticello, the home and plantation of Thomas Jefferson, as well as a museum and visitor center, library and academic center, and conference/education center, all to advance its mission of preservation and education. Monticello annually attracts 450,000 visitors onsite and more than two million web visitors.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will have bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance supplemented by a CPA license. A master’s in accounting or business preferred. A minimum of ten years work experience involving the oversight of accounting and finance, five of which must be in a management capacity, are required. Non-profit financial management experience required and audit experience strongly preferred.
