The Community School Director will be responsible for overseeing the implementation the Virginia Community School framework at Venable and Johnson Elementary Schools in FY2025. This role involves coordinating programs, fostering community partnerships, and supporting students and families across the many dimensions that affect chronic absenteeism and literacy proficiency.
Job Duties
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement and oversee the Virginia Community School framework at Venable and Johnson Elementary Schools inclusive of a caseload of 10 students per school, per year on a rolling basis (with planned growth to other CCS Schools, dependent on funding)
• Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, businesses, service providers, and community members, including facilitating meetings with partners.
• Oversee the collaborative implementation of a community needs assessment along with City of Promise Assistant and Executive Director.
• Coordinate after-school programs, tutoring/workshops, summer and family engagement activities for students and families
• Provide in-school support services to students and families at Venable, including referrals and warm hand offs to appropriate community resources and partners
• Oversee similar work from Abundant Life taking place at Johnson Elementary School
• Work closely with school staff to identify and address student needs
• Monitor, evaluate, and report the effectiveness of community school initiatives
• Organize and facilitate community meetings
• Organize and facilitate community trainings
Skills Required
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field, or commensurate experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement, education, or social services
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Commitment to the mission and values of City of Promise and the Virginia Community School framework
• Must be willing to work in person. Must have a flexible schedule and be available for frequent evening work and occasional weekends
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
