This position is responsible professional work in the implementation of the City’s Climate Program. Assists in strategically developing, planning, and implementing program priorities that reduce emissions from the residential, commercial, transportation, and municipal sectors. Acts as a subject matter expert and project manager to meet the goals and responsibilities of the City’s climate action and climate adaptation projects and initiatives. This position will help ensure that the transition to a low carbon future is effective, affordable, equitable and inclusive. Work is conducted under direct supervision of the Climate Protection Program Manager.
The preferred hiring range for this position is between $48,609.60 to $70,782.40 annually. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. - The City of Charlottesville manages its own retirement system and does not participate in VRS, however the City has a Portability Agreement with VRS. There are certain provisions that must be met and the portability request must be executed within 18 months of vesting in the City’s Plan. Minimum Requirements:
- At least three years of professional experience in related field or occupation.
- Any combination of education or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Sciences, Public Administration, or related field. (Minimally, possession of high school diploma or GED is required, and one and a half years of relevant work experience may be substituted for each year of the required higher education.)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred for Four-Year College Degree; Strong preference for a Master’s Degree.

Skills Required
Skills: Knowledge of climate change (including climate adaptation and resilience), sustainability planning, practices and regulations, performance and project management, policy and program development. Strong technical reading, writing, and presentation skills. Strong skills in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office, databases, GIS). Comprehensive practical knowledge of project management including budgeting, scheduling, coordination, contractor or consultant oversight, and quality assurance. Ability to report information in a clear and understandable format. Ability to be organized and efficient.
