Organization: PACEM is a low-barrier emergency shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. At PACEM, we embrace Empathy, Integrity, Inclusivity, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Respect. Position Overview: This seasonal, part-time position will encompass two evenings weekly at our rotating men’s shelter sites, plus 10 daytime hours to continue direct service support for engaged clients. Your primary responsibility is to provide intensive community based human services to include coordination, advocacy, support and encouragement. Intensive work with current guests to remove barriers to housing and create plans to transition guests to stable housing as quickly as possible is expected. The work will facilitate access to mainstream community resources, especially in the areas of substance abuse, mental illness, aging, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as advocate for male shelter guests ages 18-49yo
• Follow established case management policies and practices
• Identify and prioritize improvements to case management policies and practices (i.e., contribute to continuous improvement)
• Collaborate with other case managers on staff
• Maintain shared client files in multiple formats (paper, digital, and online)
• Supply reports to Board/Executive Director at regular intervals and as needed
• Support shelter operations and shelter directors
• Build partnerships and the ability to refer with an array of community agencies
Skills Required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social work or related field; seniors focus a significant plus
• 2+ years of experience providing direct services to individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, addiction and/or mental illness; seniors focus a plus
• Effective oral and written communication
• Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently
• Strong collaboration skills with ability to prioritize multiple and varied tasks
• Cultural competency, including sensitivity to seniors’ issues and ability to relate to people of diverse lifestyles and cultures
• Knowledge of community resources for seniors including supports for: mental health, physical health, substance abuse recovery, neglect and/or abuse, and other services
• Knowledge of community resources for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including mainstream social services
