Description

Family Support Coordinators support the overall Head Start program with recruitment, enrollment, and community partnerships. This position works directly with families to identify strengths and needs, set goals, and support the family in achieving their goals using a coaching model. This position regularly interacts with Head Start teaching staff, conducts monthly parent meetings and workshops, makes appropriate referrals, and ensures regular and ongoing communication with families through in-person and/or virtual home visits.

 

This position currently involves approximately 90% remote work (teleworking or work from home) and 10% in-office work. Local candidates only. Reliable home internet service is required to apply.

Skills Required

  • BA/BS or AA/AS degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Services, or related field preferred. Other degrees may qualify when paired with relevant experience.

  • 1 years’ experience in a social service agency or working with vulnerable families with young children.

  • 1 year of case management or home visiting experience.

  • Knowledge of positive parenting strategies, child development, and family dynamics.

  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma and poverty on child development.

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and as an effective member of a team.

  • Bilingual, with oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is required.

Additional Info

  • Must provide a current physical/TB test and pass background screenings including criminal, sex offender, and child protective services.

  • Must be capable of completing a certification in First Aid/ CPR for infants and children and Mental Health First Aid.

  • Must have reliable home internet.

  • Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Must be willing to adjust work schedule as needed.

  • Physical activity of this position – ascending and descending stairs, ramps, and the like; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting; use of fingers for picking, pinching, grasping, and typing; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Visual acuity requirements – visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Conditions subject to in this position – not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
