Job Purpose
The Associate Director of Advancement is an important member of the VIA Advancement team and is responsible for building a pipeline of supporters to help raise funds for and awareness of VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment in the greater Roanoke area. This person will have an excellent understanding of the greater Roanoke area and will be immersed in the community with knowledge of key people in the area.
Job Duties
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships and strategic partnerships with individuals, businesses, civic groups, faith communities, and other community groups to encourage participation in support of the VIA mission
- Convert donor prospects into donors of all levels
- Identify, qualify, and cultivate current donors, leading to greater value gifts and ultimate referral to major gift program
- Work with the Advancement Coordinator in planning and executing community engagement events in the greater Roanoke area
- Support the Advancement team in achieving organization-wide fundraising goals

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently
- Must have proven problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgment
- A demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of fundraising for a community nonprofit
- A personal and professional manner is required, including discretion with sensitive materials involving families and donors
Skills Required
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of advancement or related experience
- Proficiency working with personal computers and related hardware/software
- Experience with or aptitude to learn fundraising and event management software, CRMs, and similar platforms
- Valid driver’s license is required
Additional Info
Position Type
This is a full-time position and is based in Roanoke, VA. The position will involve working flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed. Occasional travel to VIA’s other locations in Charlottesville, Lexington, and Lynchburg is required.
