Description

United Way Thomas Jefferson Area is seeking a skilled and committed professional to assist the Cville Free Tax Aid program. This program provides free tax preparation services through a large volunteer network. The assistant will help support the program in a variety of ways.

Job Duties

  • Complete online IRS Site Coordinator trainings
  • Successfully pass IRS Advanced certification exam for the VITA program
  • Learn scheduling software in advance of tax season;
  • Thoroughly review returns completed by preparers, make any required corrections, including communicating with clients when necessary;
  • Transmit return to IRS and follow-up with clients if returns are rejected;
  • Ensure all returns are completed and accepted by the IRS and State of Virginia;
  • Keep records of number of returns prepared, reasons for rejections, and other data points as required by manager;
  • Follow-up with clients that left without completing returns and see how we may assist them;
  • Monitor sites to ensure taxpayers are being treated with respect and confidentiality is maintained;
  • Assist with delivery of printers, computers, supplies and paperwork before and after season;
  • Assist with any issues that may arise.

Skills Required

  • Experience with using tax preparation software;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of clientele;
  • Strong organizational and management skills in a very hectic environment;
  • Strong interest in helping low-income neighbors navigate a stressful process;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus;
  • Ability to take initiative without much supervision;
  • Ability to comfortably make decisions based on best practices as provided in the IRS training.

Work Schedule

  • Daytime hours in office at 806 East High Street;
  • Ability to visit sites within 4-5 mile radius as needed;
