Description

MACAA Head Start is seeking experienced early childhood educators to apply for an Assistant Teacher opening. This contract position will be a combination of virtual and in-person teaching at West Central Elementary in Fluvanna County, VA. Reliable home internet service is required to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide learning opportunities to students which support growth in the areas of cognition, early literacy & language, social-emotional development, fine and gross motor development, approaches to learning, and health & nutrition.

  • Implement best practices for teacher-child interactions and classroom environment as outlined in the Creative Curriculum and ECERS and assessed with CLASS.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of child progress through observation. Document observations into Teaching Strategies GOLD.

  • Provide accurate and professional documentation in Child Plus.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with children, families, colleagues, management, and community members that will promote effective communication and collaboration.

  • Engage families through regular communication about child progress, parent meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and at-home learning activities.

Skills Required

  • Passion for education.

  • AA/AS degree in Education, CDA, or Certificate in ECE preferred.

  • First Aid/CPR and MAT certifications is preferred.

  • At least 1 years’ experience working in an early childhood education setting.

  • Experience with dual language learners, special education, or at-risk populations is preferred.

  • Bilingual, with oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred. Other language competencies are also encouraged to apply.

  • Understanding of best practices in early childhood education, or a strong willingness to learn.

  • Ability to thrive in a team-teaching environment.

  • Professional demeanor and excellent organizational skills.

Additional Info

  • Must have reliable home internet.
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Must provide a current physical/TB test and pass background screenings including criminal, sex offender, and child protective services.

  • Must be capable of completing a certification in First Aid and CPR for infants and children, as well as Mental Health First Aid.

  • Must be willing to adjust work schedule as needed.

  • Physical activity of this position – ascending and descending stairs, ramps, and the like; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting; use of fingers for picking, pinching, grasping, and typing; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Visual acuity requirements – visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Conditions subject to in this position – not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
