Description
The Virginia Discovery Museum seeks an intern to coordinate our Arts program. This position would be excellent experience for anyone in arts education, art history, early childhood or elementary education, studio art, or arts administration. Responsibilities include the following:
- Plan and implement art focused drop-in programs, this includes leading programs and planning art programs for others to lead.
- Stock and maintain the Creation Station, including planning and preparing the Craft of the Week.
- Develop plans for pop-up crafts that can be easily implemented by volunteers and staff; help with the preparation of craft materials.
- Research, plan, develop and install Artist of the Month calendar, information and materials.
- Outreach to local artists and art organizations for collaboration, exhibition and teaching opportunities.
- Interact with children and families in the galleries, encouraging imaginative play.
- Assist with maintaining and cleaning the current exhibits and galleries as needed.
- Assist with opening and closing duties when needed.
Skills Required
- The ability to take direction well and thrive in a busy, creative environment.
- Experience working with young children and their families.
- Background in the visual arts and art history; would prefer experience with education.
- Applicant must be creative with a willingness to work on craft and art projects.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Competency in multitasking and time management.
- Positive attitude and lots of energy.
- Willingness to interact with other community organizations and members.
- Flexible schedule.
Work Schedule
Flexible, Friday morning availability strongly preferred.
