Job Description: Adoption Coordinator
Classification: Salary – Non-Exempt
Salary: $34,000
Reports to: Adoptions Manager

Summary/Objective: Richmond Animal League is seeking a Full-Time Adoption Coordinator responsible for facilitating the adoption process for dogs and cats at the shelter. The Adoption Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of animals, assisting prospective adopters, and promoting our adoption program. This role involves engaging with volunteers, maintaining records, and creating a positive adoption experience for both animals and adopters. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a passion for animal welfare, and a desire to contribute to our team.

Essential Functions:
1. Support and Coordinate Adoptions: Serve as a primary point of contact for adoption inquiries and facilitate the adoption process to ensure successful placements
2. Communication Management: Answer phone calls, return messages, prepare adoption-related communications, and maintain accurate records in our database
3. Volunteer Engagement: Collaborate with volunteers, providing assistance, guidance and support to adoption counselors as needed
4. Animal Care: Monitor health and well-being of animals in the adoptions area, ensure clean and sanitary animal and public spaces, provide necessary care
5. Administrative Tasks: Assist with data entry, paperwork, and administrative duties related to adoptions and animal care
6. Flexibility and Teamwork: Display initiative, time management skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities, but does support volunteer adoption counselors.

Work Environment: The work environment includes the shelter and clinic, which can have high noise levels, exposure to cleaning chemicals, animal-related allergens, and potential for bites and scratches. Physical demands may include lifting, extensive walking, bending, and standing. Work will occur both indoors and outdoors.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time non-exempt salary position. This role will require one weekend day per week. Regular and reliable attendance is essential.

Ideal Candidate:

Required Experience:
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Comfortable working with basic software systems/databases

Preferred Experience:
1. Bilingual (additional compensation for bilingual hires)
2. Experience with animal sheltering/veterinary software
3. Animal handling and behavior experience/knowledge
