Description

The nonprofit Green Infrastructure Center is seeking an Accountant to help with general financial management, bookkeeping duties and AR/AP.
About: Founded in 2006, the nonprofit Green Infrastructure Center Inc. (GIC) is a leading designer of landscape conservation planning. Green Infrastructure includes intact forests, urban tree canopy, wetlands, springs, parks and rivers and soils that provide clean water, air quality, wildlife habitat, recreation and food. The GIC’s mission is helping communities realize that nature is also “green infrastructure” and to utilize natural solutions to address climate change, urban heat islands, improved public health, and increased social and economic equity. GIC’s clients include federal, regional, state and local government agencies, land trusts and conservation groups. This position is located at GIC’s Headquarters office in Charlottesville, VA. Position Overview:

Skills and Qualifications: Accounting, reporting skills, attention to detail and deadline-oriented, familiarity and adherence to FASB accounting standards, known as generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), confidentiality, time management, cash flow analysis, data entry management, and general math skills. Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and federal grant rules. Must have proficiency with Quick Books Online, MS Excel, Word and PPTX.

Job Duties

This position requires financial management, general bookkeeping duties and administrative duties, including:
· Enters all travel reports and other approved expenditures into QuickBooks.
· Enters expenditures related to benefits programs into QuickBooks
· Verifies documentation for bills from vendors, and prepares for approval by senior staff, and processes payments.
· Prepares client invoices in their prescribed format (approximately 12 per month), updates grant financial reports and maintains grant spreadsheets Tracks payment status of invoices and assists Executive Director in collections as needed.
· Coordinates invoicing with GIC’s Finance Manager
· Tracks bank account balances and payables/receivables.
· Prepares employee timesheets each month and adjusts timesheet hours as requested by Grant Manager to add new grants or change grant allocations per employee.
· Reconciles monthly all credit cards and bank accounts.
· Enters approved payroll sheet hours into Paychex online payroll/HR
· Allocates monthly job costing and enters into QuickBooks and related grant spreadsheet for billings.
· Prepares monthly balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports as needed. These may include cash flow projection and income projections.
· Ensures grant financial files match the accounting records.
· Prepares financial packet for board meetings to include financial statements and highlights of key data and metrics (approximately twice per year).
· Prepares financial data for tax filings, VA Form 102 and audits.
· Maintains financial security by following internal controls per the Employee Manual.
· Tracks annual equipment spreadsheet and removes discarded equipment for property tax payments.
· Assists with creating and tracking annual budget.

Work Environment and Demands: Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally and/or negligible weights frequently.
Must be able to remain in stationary position more than 50% of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer. Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Shared office space is located one block from Charlottesville’s lively downtown mall.

Skills Required

Degrees, Experience and Qualifications:
· Follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
· Exhibits strong technical accounting knowledge
· Knows how to use Quick Books Online
· Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
· Attention to detail including state and federal grant rules
· A bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, or a similar major is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
· (CPA) preferred, but extensive experience may be substituted
· A minimum of five years’ experience in accounting/finance is required
· Must be a notary or be able to obtain.
Communications: Communication and collaboration skills with both GIC staff and clients and partners is required.

Work Schedule

30 hours per week, flexible hours, but must be in-office 3 days per week while other hours can be worked remotely.

Supervisor: This position reports to the Finance and Operations Manager.
