Desired skills, perspectives, experiences, and characteristics of new board members

Cville Village is a small but growing all-volunteer nonprofit that is relatively new to the scene. The organization is currently led by a board president who oversees all operations, while others handle the majority of day-to-day responsibilities. Over the past two years, significant progress has been made, including securing funding to launch services and nearly completing the first year of operations. As Cville Village prepares to enter its second year, the organization is seeking its next board president.

The ideal candidate will have worked in the nonprofit space before, but the current board are all from other avenues of life. Someone with excellent and deep community contacts and knowledge, and/or with fundraising experience, would be great. A level of comfort with common software platforms and tech hardware is essential. Being a “people person” helps.

This role is perfect for a relatively new retiree with good organizational skills, energy, and a passion for seniors’ issues and getting people together.

The board is currently a working board, with all members serving as officers or committee chairs. There is also room for two additional board members to focus on other organizational needs, such as fundraising.

Annual Time Commitment (including committee meetings, special events, work outside the board, etc.)

For the president: Variably 8 to 10 hours a week, occasionally more. This could decrease as the organization grows and brings in more volunteers who have skills for the back office work that I currently do.

For other board members: 4-6 hours a month on average

Is a minimum financial contribution required?

Yes

Additional Information

The demographics tell us that 65 and up is the largest age group in our country and getting larger every day. We are living longer than ever before, and the vast majority of us want to stay in our own homes and neighborhoods as we age. Cville Village is here to make that wish realistic.

Yet we all need some level of help, especially those of us who are solo agers, and help can be difficult to find and expensive when we do find it. Even for those who have kids in town, they aren’t always available, and it can become harder to ask them for help. Beyond the practical aspect, though, people need the social contact that promotes healthy aging. Cville Village, like other similar villages around the country, has developed to fill these practical and social needs for our members as we all age together.

We as a board are a harmonious and respectful group in which everyone is valued and everyone’s voice is heard. We invite you to join us.

Does The Organization have Directors & Officer's insurance?

Yes

Our organization, Cville Village, is a small, new to the scene, but growing, all-volunteer nonprofit. As the president I oversee all operations, though others have the majority of the day to day responsibilities. I've been in this role for 2+ years, led the necessary steps to obtain funding so we could launch our services and have brought Cville Village nearly to the conclusion of its first year of operation. Now as we look to the 2nd year, I'm ready to find our next board president.
