Karen Gulliford partners with organizations to improve leadership effectiveness, capacity, resilience and organizational results. After a 16-year career in human resources leadership and management training in the Connecticut and Washington, DC areas, Karen became a business owner and leadership coach in central Virginia in 2004. She earned her M.Ed. in Human Resources Development from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) designation from the International Coach Federation.
Karen’s business, Great Workplaces, LLC is focused on organizational development with an emphasis on workplace culture, effective leadership, and conflict management. Her clients are primarily in state government, higher education, small to mid-size businesses and nonprofits. Typical training topics are conflict management, coaching skills, and organizational development strategy. Karen has coached individuals in various levels of career growth from CEO to emerging leaders and sales professionals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and needs. Karen is also a certified workplace mediator and certified in Birkman, EQ, and Conflict Dynamics.
Karen’s previous roles include adjunct instructor and consultant with the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA), Interim Director of Human Resources for Virginia State University and faculty/coach with the Community Foundation’s Emerging Nonprofit Leader’s Program (ENLP) since 2016. Karen is also a speaker on various topics at national conferences.
Her community involvement includes International Coaching Federation of Virginia board, the Ashland YMCA Strategic Alignment Committee, high school mentorship programs, and Faith Landmarks Ministries Job Club.
