Description

The College Foundation of the University of Virginia, which exists to support the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, is conducting a search for a Development Officer.

 

The Development Officer will travel frequently to qualify new donors and cultivate relationships with alumni capable of making leadership annual gifts to the College Fund. This position works with the Vice President for Development on strategy and direction to set fund raising goals and determine a work plan to achieve individual and unit goals.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership Annual Fundraising

  1. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership annual donors for the College Fund and other current-use designations, traveling as needed to build and advance relationships with alumni, and parents of students and alumni of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
  2. Recruit, cultivate, and solicit annual fundraising volunteers and leverage volunteer relationships to expand the scope of the College’s annual fundraising efforts.
  3. Prepare briefings, gift agreements, and other correspondence for prospects, collaborating with the Dean’s office and Development colleagues in Arts & Sciences and across Grounds.
  4. Manage prospect and volunteer activity using the Advance fundraising database and associated reporting tools, ensuring that data is entered in a timely and accurate fashion.
  5. Maintain in-depth knowledge of the College’s fundraising priorities, including academic and extra-curricular programs and key faculty and administrators.

 

Project and Affinity-based Fundraising

  1. Manage special fundraising projects under the guidance of the Vice President for Development to enhance affinity-based fundraising and increase support for the College.
  2. Other additional duties as assigned by supervisor, to include serving as liaison to several departments/centers within the college.

Skills Required

Qualifications:

 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and maintain a high degree of personal initiative. A bachelor’s degree and at least two years development or related experience is required, Higher Education fundraising experience preferred. Ability to successfully develop and cultivate relationships with a wide variety of constituents and the ability to interact with executive-level administrators, government officials, donors/prospects, alumni, and development staff, with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality is required.

This position reports to the Vice President of Development. The annual salary will be commensurate with experience. The College Foundation offers a generous benefits plan including full health insurance coverage for employees and a 403(b) retirement plan.
