C4K seeks a dynamic and strategic Director of Development to lead our fundraising efforts and build a sustainable, community-rooted development program. This is a pivotal moment for our organization as we prepare to celebrate our 25th anniversary and expand our impact. The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven fundraiser with a deep commitment to creating opportunities for youth and a proven ability to secure philanthropic support from individuals, foundations, and corporations. This role offers the chance to shape C4K’s development strategy from the ground up and play a key leadership role in advancing our mission.
Job Duties
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Implementation
-Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan with clear, measurable goals aligned to C4K’s strategic priorities.
-Design and guide donor cultivation and stewardship efforts—including strategies for major gift prospects, current donors, and lapsed supporters—in partnership with the Executive Director.
-Strengthen and grow C4K’s base of support from individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors through relationship-building, compelling communications, and effective engagement strategies.
-Plan and lead fundraising campaigns and special initiatives, including those tied to C4K’s 25th anniversary celebration.
-Track and analyze fundraising metrics, providing regular reports to the Executive Director and Development committee
Donor Communications & Stewardship
-Create compelling donor materials, impact reports, and appeals
-Manage and maintain accurate donor records and reporting through our CRM (Bloomerang)
-Develop and implement stewardship strategies to retain and grow donor engagement
Grant Strategy
-Identify grant opportunities and write grant proposals and timely reports in collaboration with relevant staff
Events & Community Engagement
-Lead fundraising and donor cultivation events, including our signature Youth Showcases
-Represent C4K at community and partner events to build relationships and raise visibility
Organizational Leadership
-Serve as a member of C4K’s leadership team, helping to shape long-term strategy and a culture of philanthropy
-Support and collaborate with the Board of Directors on fundraising efforts and training
Skills Required
Qualifications
Required:
-Commitment to C4K’s mission, values, and youth-centered culture
-Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising and donor engagement, and strong knowledge of fundraising best practices
-Proven track record of securing major gifts, grants, and corporate support
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for storytelling
-Ability to build authentic relationships with donors, community partners, and team members
-Strong project management and organizational skills
Preferred:
-Experience in a small or growing nonprofit where you built or expanded development systems
-Familiarity with donor databases and data-informed fundraising
-Knowledge of the Charlottesville philanthropic landscape
Work Schedule
This is primarily an in-person position.
