Description
C4K (Computers4Kids) seeks a dynamic and relationship-driven Mentoring and Community Engagement Specialist to lead the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of youth members, mentors, and volunteers for our STEAM mentoring program. This position is about inspiring connection, cultivating community, and building a pipeline of engaged participants who are excited to be part of a transformational learning community.
The Mentoring and Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital front-line role in “selling” the value of C4K’s mission and mentoring program to youth, families, volunteers, and community partners. You’ll be responsible for creating compelling outreach strategies, nurturing relationships, and ensuring participants have an excellent experience, so they join and stay engaged. This role combines the heart of community building with the mindset of a recruiter and customer success manager.
Job Duties
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Implement Recruitment Strategies to recruit and retain Youth and Mentors
* Develop and execute strategic outreach plans to attract middle and high school youth excited about exploring STEAM in an after-school setting, as well as mentors who are passionate about making a difference. Use data, feedback, and best practices to strengthen recruitment pipelines and improve retention of both youth and mentors.
Serve as an Ambassador for C4K
* Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, local companies, universities, and community organizations to elevate the visibility and credibility of C4K’s mentoring opportunities. Represent C4K through presentations, tabling, and other outreach activities that effectively communicate the impact and value of our programs.
Onboard and Support Participants
* Design and lead engaging onboarding experiences for mentors, youth, and families that communicate expectations and inspire confidence and enthusiasm.
Matchmaking and Relationship Management
* Work with the program team to match mentors with youth based on shared interests and availability. Check in regularly with volunteers, members, and families to assess satisfaction and make adjustments to ensure lasting engagement with programs and strong, lasting mentoring relationships.
Track Engagement and Identify Opportunities
* Maintain accurate records, monitor engagement trends, and proactively address drop-off risks to keep mentors and youth actively participating.
Collaborate Across Teams
* Work closely with the program team to identify volunteer and mentor needs. Develop systems to ensure the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
Celebrate and Appreciate
* Lead volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts to foster a sense of belonging and community.
Champion Best Practices
* Stay connected with external partners such as MENTOR Virginia and The Clubhouse Network to bring innovative, research-based ideas to C4K’s mentoring program.
Work Schedule
This is an in-person role during normal business hours (9AM-5PM) with some flexibility. We will work together to establish a predictable schedule to ensure consistency. Occasional additional flexibility may be required, based on program needs.
