Location: Music Resource Center, Charlottesville, VA
Compensation: $47 per teaching hour
Schedule: 4–8 hours/week | Flexible weekday scheduling between 10 AM – 7 PM

Position Overview
The Music Resource Center (MRC) is currently seeking a skilled and experienced recording engineer to join our team as a part-time Audio Engineering Instructor for our established Studio Certification Program. This program is run in partnership with several local high schools and offers a pathway for students to gain real-world studio experience and certification.
The ideal candidate is a working professional who is actively engaged in the audio industry and passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Job Duties

About the Program
MRC Certified participants are high school juniors and seniors who train with production
mentors to master, studio etiquette, professional recording procedures, and core production techniques. The certification includes 32 hours of one-on-one instruction and 10-20 hours of paid internship work (mostly on-site at MRC). By the end of the program, students are expected to run unassisted sessions in MRC’s recording studio using Pro Tools and qualify for internship placements in commercial studios. High-performing participants will be prepared to transition into assistant engineering roles following program completion.
Lesson sessions are held in 2-hour blocks, weekly (or more frequently based on availability), with scheduling determined collaboratively between the instructor, student, and Program Director.

Skills Required

• Proficiency with Pro Tools
• Solid understanding of acoustics and studio design
• Multiple years of experience in various studio settings (at least some in a commercial studio)
• Familiarity with music release strategies
• Prior experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating teen learning
• Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to tailor lessons to individual student needs while maintaining core learning outcomes
• Ability to pass a background check
• Availability for 4–8 hours of instruction per week

Work Schedule

Flexible scheduling.
Lesson sessions are held in 2-hour blocks, weekly (or more frequently based on availability), with scheduling determined collaboratively between the instructor, student, and Program Director.

Most weeks will include 2-4 two hour lessons, totaling 4-8 hours weekly.
