Development Specialist Job Description

The Development Specialist performs administrative tasks to support the agency’s fundraising and development initiatives. This position organizes and maintains the donor database; assists with digital and print marketing and public relations; supports stewardship activities; and manages files and correspondence as needed. This role keeps development operations, meetings, and events running smoothly and coordinates other processes and duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail and will enjoy taking the initiative to suggest, create and maintain organized systems. The successful candidate will have several years of experience in fundraising and development and seek to expand and strengthen these areas of expertise at our agency. This person is a team player with excellent written and oral communication skills and who thrives in a friendly and fast-paced environment. The Development Specialist is a key member of the development department and is supervised by the Development Director.
Education and Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, marketing or related degree; or a minimum of four years of equivalent experience in a development position or comparable work experience is required.
– Demonstrated ability to implement a positive problem-solving approach to administrative tasks and shifting organizational timelines and priorities.
– Experience working in a nonprofit organization or similar setting.
– Experience in developing and optimizing internal processes and filing systems.
– Experience handling confidential information with discretion.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
– Excellent data entry and information accuracy skills.

The salary offered for this position will be based on the candidate’s experience with similar responsibilities, related education and certifications, and highly beneficial skills and talents relevant to the role. Job Duties
Essential Functions
– Assist with development administration including conducting research, answer questions, preparing reports and meeting materials, mailing, placing orders and running errands.
– Assist with the creation and implementation of the Development Plan that incorporates a range of strategies including annual appeals, major donors, grants, corporate, individual appeals, social media, and special events.
– Help coordinate scheduling and materials for development board committee meetings and event subcommittees. Take meeting minutes, provide copies to members and follow up as needed.
– Assist with events including developing and maintaining budgets, scheduling, vendor and talent coordination, managing correspondence, tracking invitations and attendance, and coordinating and assisting with set up and clean up. Assist with the production and implementation of appeal campaigns and other fundraising communications and strategies.
– Design and run reports and assist with donor database maintenance. Build expertise in database administration and suggest and implement procedures and practices to simplify database management.
– Assist with the production and implementation of appeal campaigns and other fundraising communications and strategies.
– Design and coordinate website and social media activities for the development department. Assist with enhancing our visibility strategy.
– Assist with grant research and tracking.
Additional Responsibilities
– Adhere to all documentation and confidentiality requirements of the agency.
– Contribute to a workplace culture that promotes the agency’s Resilience Model of Care including participating in Cultural Humility meetings, events and offsite activities, and support the agency in maintaining a healthy and inclusive workplace.
– Occasionally, staff are required to attend agency sponsored outreach programs and fundraising events.
– Attend and participate in training seminars, agency-sponsored professional development, meetings for supervision, teams, and staff, and retreats.
– Perform duties and administrative tasks including writing reports and summaries, maintaining accurate timesheets, providing back up coverage as needed, and other responsibilities, not listed here, as required.
