Desired skills, perspectives, experiences, and characteristics of new board members
A board is more than a collection of individuals. It is an entity that governs, approves strategy and engages in robust discussion and debate on relevant issues. It must act as a single entity. We are seeking a diversity of personality styles and traits that, when added to our current board members, will enhance the ability of the board members to work together as a governing body.
Personality traits we are seeking include: ability to work collaboratively, respect for diverse points of view, willingness to lead discussions, enthusiasm, love of the arts, commitment to the success of our nonprofit, and a sense of humor!
The skills and expertise we are seeking include: Public Relations, Fundraising, Marketing, Grant Writing, Strategic Planning, and Volunteer Coordination.
Among other responsibilities, all board members play a key role in raising funds for our organization. It is an expectation of board service that you will introduce people in your sphere of influence to our work and invite them to know and do more – as prospective volunteers, board members, staff and as donors. Our organization commits to providing you with the information and tools necessary for you to stand as a vocal and visible ambassador for our work. Further, we expect every board member to make an annual financial commitment for each year of board service at a level you are comfortable with.
Annual Time Commitment (including committee meetings, special events, work outside the board, etc.)
Board service is a true commitment of time and energy. We estimate that board service could be a commitment of 1 to 5 hours each month.
This includes attending board meetings and important related meetings on a regular basis. Board Meetings are currently scheduled on a quarterly basis (4/year) and last 1 – 1.5 hours. Meetings may be in-person or via Zoom.
Committee Meetings will typically be held monthly.
