High School Program Coordinator

Overview:
UP RVA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Richmond, VA. The organization’s mission is to serve low-income high school and college students. We currently support 27 high school students attending five independent schools in Richmond (Collegiate, St. Catherine’s, St. Christopher’s, Steward, and Trinity Episcopal). 21 UP RVA students attend 13 colleges and universities in four states. The annual operating budget is approximately $1,500,000 (having grown from under 1 million dollars three years ago).

Reporting to the Director of Academic Success, the High School Program Coordinator will partner with UP RVA’s Academic Team to help support student academic success. The High School Program Coordinator oversees integral aspects of the organization’s high school programming, including the after-school program, supplemental weekend academic support, and on-site academic interventions at our partner schools. The High School Program Coordinator will also manage and supervise the volunteer and paid tutors.

Job Duties

Job Duties:
– Execute, manage, and oversee the after-school program for UP RVA high school students, which meets twice during the school week and every other Sunday.
– Meet with and offer academic support for a caseload of UP RVA students during school hours at our partner schools as needed.
– Assist in developing and implementing programming for UP RVA high school students that elevates social-emotional learning, wellness, and belonging.
– Support student academic needs, including homework completion, quiz and test preparation, and other school-related assignments.
– Manage and supervise volunteer and paid tutors and other after-school program supporting staff.
– Partner with the Director of Academic Success to track students’ academic progress weekly.
– Assist with the UP RVA High School Prep Program and the Pathways Program as needed.
– Assist in developing and executing learning plans for students on Academic Warning.
– Meet and communicate effectively with the Academic and Operations Team members, including UP RVA drivers.
– Oversee the purchasing budget for the after-school program and provide necessary supplies for students and after-school programming.
– Coordinate and communicate students’ transportation, school supply, and incidental needs with the Operations Manager.
– Maintain the after-school program’s physical space in partnership with the Anna Julia Cooper School.

Skills Required

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
– Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
– Experience in the fields of education and youth development is preferred.
– Excellent organization and communication skills.
– Strong ability to listen to and connect with a diverse range of students and adults.
– Facility with technology.
– Self-motivated and independent.
– Collaborative team-player.
– Passion for working with low-income students from traditionally underserved communities who will be among the first in their families to attend college.

Work Schedule

Approximately 40 hours per week.
Daily schedule varies. This position does oversee our after-school program, which happens every Monday and Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. and two Sunday’s a month for two hours in the afternoon.
