Description
The Recovery Residence Manager (RRM) works closely with women who are in the early stages of recovery from substance use disorders (SUDs) and who live at Georgia’s House, a recovery residence for women in Charlottesville. This person supports the women in maintaining their sobriety and fosters a positive and supportive group-living environment. The position requires a dedication to individuals in long-term recovery and a strong desire to serve others.
The RRM helps each woman build and follow her own unique recovery plan and identify what success in recovery means to her. The RRM also delivers program services, develops relationships with community partners, oversees the daily and weekly operations of the house, resolves conflicts between residents, and helps maintain a safe, secure, and supportive living environment.
About Georgia’s House
Georgia’s House is the signature initiative of Georgia’s Friends, a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area for women in recovery from SUDs and co-occurring mental health disorders. Georgia’s House provides hope and healing by providing a safe, supportive, and structured home for up to ten women at a time. Women may stay at Georgia’s House for up to two years as they rebuild their lives.
Job Duties
Principal Duties
Under the direction of the Program Director (PD), the RRM will:
Model effective communication, time management, and decision-making skills for the residents
Model effective conflict-mediation skills and help residents resolve conflicts
Promote a safe, supportive, and recovery-focused culture within the house
Foster a positive living experience by promoting a culture of respect, collaboration, and accountability
Oversee all day-to-day resident activities such as house meetings, mutual aid meetings, and house care tasks
Enforce curfews, administer drug screenings, and implement other accountability measures in accordance with the program handbook
Provide recovery support for up to 10 residents at a time by helping them develop, follow, and track individualized recovery plans
Assist residents with urgent or emergent situations after hours and on weekends as part of an on-call staff rotation
Support the admission process for women who are applying for residence and facilitate new-resident intakes
Serve as a liaison between the residents and the PD
Support with the schedule and coordination of the day programming workshops and oversee resident attendance
Advocate for the residents’ needs and house requirements to the PD and/or staff
Participate on the organization’s Residents’ Committee and Program Committee and other committees that may be required
Skills Required
Required Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Three years of lived experience with SUDs and/or mental health disorders
Three years of work experience supporting diverse and at-risk populations within the recovery, mental health, and/or human services fields
Has a valid driver’s license and a reliable, safe, and insured personal vehicle and is willing and able to use their personal vehicle to transport residents as needed
Other Valuable Training
Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) training or certification
Bachelor’s degree or other certification/coursework in addiction counseling, social work, mental health counseling, or related fields
Training in DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging)
Training in trauma-informed care and conflict-mediation
Work Schedule
The weekly schedule will be defined by the selected candidate and the PD, but will require the RRM to work several early evenings during the week, several hours on the first Sunday of every month, and potentially a few other weekend hours each month.
