Description

Shenandoah National Park, spanning approximately 200,000 acres across eight counties in Northern and
Central Virginia, holds a special place in the hearts of many. As the official philanthropic partner of the
park, the Shenandoah National Park Trust is committed to strengthening the bond between the park
and its neighboring communities. This a unique opportunity to be on the ground floor of building a new
program. We are seeking a self-starter for a capacity-building initiative to develop our lands outreach
program.

This is a temporary, part-time term position (up to 30 hours per week) with a 12-month duration, with
the potential to be extended.

Job Duties

The Good Neighbors Program Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission and achieving the following objectives:

1.Community Engagement: Understand the dynamics of the communities and lands within the
boundary of Shenandoah National Park, fostering relationships with park neighbors and
property owners.
2. Research and Outreach: Conduct surveys and research of like-minded organizations, building
consensus and a coalition around the importance of a healthy park boundary.
3. Educational Resources: Develop a “How to Be a Good Park Neighbor” resource guide for
stewardship of adjacent private and public lands based on research and community outreach.
4. Fundraising: Engage in fundraising efforts to support the Good Neighbor Land Stewards
Program. Collaborate with the Shenandoah National Park Trust team to identify and engage
potential donors, partners, and sponsors who share our commitment to park preservation.
5. Land Stewardship: Assist in the development of processes and plans for land donations to
Shenandoah National Park Trust from willing donors and sellers.

Skills Required

Relationship Builder
• Ability to translate research and data into actionable plans.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
• Proven experience in engaging individuals and the public.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency.
• Demonstrated community organizing skills.
• Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working with office productivity software such as O365
• Background in conservation or related field.
• Understanding of GIS mapping/ land acquisitions preferred.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to hike 1 mile and comfortable on outdoor terrain.

Work Schedule

This is a temporary, part-time term position (up to 30 hours per week) with a 12-month duration, with
the potential to be extended.

Location: This position will be a remote position, with occasional meetings in the office at our
Charlottesville HQ. Applicants will only be considered who live in counties bordering the park. The work
requires travel to areas around the park to meet and develop relationships with Park neighbors and
various land conservation groups working around the edges of the Park.
