The City of Charlottesville Commonwealth Attorney’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to join our team as a Project Assistant who is highly motivated and who strives for success by demonstrating Charlottesville’s Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Respect, and Excellence.

The Charlottesville Victim Witness Assistance Program provides comprehensive services to victims of crime to reduce the impact of victimization, to support victims and their families throughout the criminal justice process, and to ensure that victims are afforded the rights entitled to them by law. This position is the first point of contact for crime victims in the City. And fulfills the clerical duties for the office, including correspondence with victims, maintenance of client files and database entry essential to the program’s grant requirements. Provides administrative services to a department, including clerical, maintenance of files, database entry, communications, outreach and/or planning assistance to the director and staff. Primarily and most frequently the work done here is under direct supervision, within one functional area, and of a routine nature.

The preferred hiring amount is between $16.97 – $21.04 Hourly ($35,307.88 – $43,759.61 Annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City’s retirement options, gym membership reimbursement (up to $34 a month), tuition reimbursement (up to $3,000 per fiscal year), and continuing education/training opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree. (Minimally, possession of a high school diploma or GED plus two years of relevant work experience may be considered equivalent.)
  • At least two years of experience in related field.

If assigned to Victim/Witness Program:

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous experience working in a non-profit or human services field preferred.
    • Previous experience related to crisis intervention or victim advocacy preferred.
    • Proficiency in a language other than English, preferably Spanish.
