Peter Paul RVA (Peter Paul Development Center) in Richmond has operated for more than forty years and has been a network of “Promise Centers”, each offering a full range of programs and services to the neighbors of the East End that leverages its unique position to convene partners and community members to provide holistic support. Peter Paul RVA’s mission is: To support the neighbors of the East End and educate its students equipping them to serve as positive contributors to the families, community, and society.

Peter Paul RVA serves Richmond’s East End to empower community change through education and engagement. Programs include a unique combination of out-of-school time programming for students, plus intentional family and community enrichment and engagement. Founded in 1979 by John Coleman, Peter Paul RVA is the oldest community-based agency continually serving East End children, families, and neighbors.

The CEO, reporting to a Board of Directors, will provide leadership to advance the mission of the organization. The CEO will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, leading and managing staff and volunteers, as well as the long-term strategic direction of the organization. The CEO will also oversee programming and fundraising and represent Peter Paul RVA in the community.

The successful candidate will possess the personal qualities necessary to interact with and engage students and their families, donors and potential donors, partners, educators, and the Board. Candidate should also have strong leadership skills, management experience, and some familiarity with educational programs and community programming.

Skills Required

  • Master’s degree preferred in related field.
  • 5+ years of executive leadership experience in nonprofit and/or business management, including budget development and oversight.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization’s programs and services, including educational programming, family, and community programming.
  • Work with the board of directors to ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements and maintain donor and community trust by ensuring good governance, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Foster relationships with community partners, Richmond Public Schools, educators, and donors to build support and ensure the success of Peter Paul RVA’s mission.
  • Lead fundraising efforts to support the organization’s growth in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience fostering a healthy and effective culture with staff, board members, volunteers, the public, and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and the ability to make public presentations.
  • Ability to develop and implement a strategic and comprehensive vision for the organization while upholding the organization’s values.
  • Cultivate a culture of belonging and collaboration throughout the organization in alignment with and support to Peter Paul RVA’s mission.
