The Marketing & Communications Manager will be responsible for managing guest- and partner-facing communications initiatives to build awareness about the organization’s mission, network, and services, and to encourage participation in our charitable food assistance network. Our guests are the people we serve, and our partners are organizations on the front lines of hunger relief in the Blue Ridge.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, manage, and evaluate annual partner and guest communications plans.
  • Research communications channels and tactics to reach the Food Bank’s guest and partner communications goals.
  • Attend guest and partner gatherings to learn needs, challenges, and experiences with our services to inform communications plans.
  • Write, edit, and manage creation of communication deliverables. This might include print and email newsletters, web content, presentations, handbooks, flyers, social media posts, and web-based tools.
  • Capture photos, videos, and stories and create content for use in Food Bank network communications.

 

Required job qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of relevant training and/or experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, media relations or related field; experience gained through any combination of lived and work experience
  • Experience in non-profit communications preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience planning, producing content for, managing, and evaluating communications campaigns
  • Ability to take initiative, be resourceful, and problem solve
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, web publishing software, email marketing software, social media platforms and design software (WordPress, MailChimp, Facebook, and Canva preferred)
  • Competency in conversational Spanish preferred

The Marketing & Communications Manager is a full-time position, and the Food Bank offers an effective and healthy work culture, competitive salary, and excellent benefits.

The role is based in the Verona or Charlottesville location and reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications. Duties may require occasional work during evenings and on weekends. Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Occasional driving and travel throughout the Food Bank service area is required.
