Description

This is a part-time, flexible schedule, remote position that will work with the Head of
School and other staff and board to increase University Montessori’s visibility in the
Charlottesville, Albemarle and surrounding communities. Each communication
should build trust in the UMS brand, and amplify the impact our Montessori
interpretation has on the students that learn here.

Reports to: Head of School
Schedule: 10 hours per week, to be completed off site unless otherwise required
Date of start: September 1, 2023. This is a one year contract, with the possibility of
renewal at the end of the year.

 

Job Duties

Roles and Responsibilities
● Represent University Montessori’s mission and impact to community
members by developing and executing a communications and marketing
plan that utilizes various forms of media: print, web or social, newsletters and
marketing collateral.

● Create a branding strategy for UMS.

● Maintain and curate UMS’s social media presence (Facebook and Instagram)
to the fullest extent possible.

● Purchase print or social media advertising when necessary to fulfill
communications and marketing plan.

● Utilize graphic design software (Canva, Adobe, etc.) to create visual media for
online or print use

● Design and draft content, with UMS leadership, for community newsletters,
and announcements.

● Develop marketing materials specific to prospective families

● Develop marketing materials for any special events

● Create and coordinate any swag purchases

● Document, or arrange for documentation, UMS events for use on social media,
or future print/social campaigns

● Keep UMS website updated, make suggestions for improvement.

External stakeholder services
○ Along with the Head of School, help recruit students each year through
a variety of methods:
■ Social media, website
■ Print media (must have design skills)
■ Radio and television
○ Representation at community events and/or support in coordinating
representation at events
○ Communicate the mission and impact of UMS to the Charlottesville/
Albemarle community:
■ Maintain UMS’s Facebook and Instagram. Use social media to the
fullest extent possible.
■ Keep UMS website updated (in collaboration with our Head of
School)
■ Create and promote materials for fundraising events, including
Annual Fund appeal
■ Create a prospective student email packet
■ Order custom UMS merchandise/giveaways when needed
● Internal stakeholder services
○ Add meeting dates, community events, etc., to the calendar on UMS
website
○ Layout and Design of email newsletter

Skills Required

Experience with:
