Description
C4K seeks a passionate and dedicated Mentor Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, screening, training, and coordinating youth, mentors, and volunteers for C4K’s STEM mentoring program. This role is instrumental in building community, requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Job Duties
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain youth members.
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain mentors and volunteers.
- Communicate with the C4K team to identify available opportunities and needs for non-mentor volunteers.
- Build and sustain relationships with community organizations, schools, companies, and other groups to increase member and mentor participation.
- Develop and maintain mentor training materials and ensure mentors are adequately prepared to participate.
- Develop and maintain orientation materials for youth members and their families in coordination with the program team.
- Collaborate with the program team to identify mentor needs and recruit mentors with the necessary skills and interests.
- Match mentors with youth members based on interests, needs, and personality.
- Gather information about volunteers’ skills, availability and goals; match volunteers with appropriate opportunities.
- Conduct mentor check-ins to ensure satisfaction and retention.
- Communicate with program staff to assess quality of matches and, when necessary, rematch participants to ensure successful completion.
- Maintain accurate records of participant information and statuses.
- Assist with program evaluation efforts.
- Engage with best-practices partner organizations including The Clubhouse Network, Best Buy, and MENTOR Virginia, attending meetings, sharing ideas and issues and supporting collaborative projects.
- Organize recognition and appreciation events.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the mentoring program
Skills Required
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred Requirements
- Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
- Understanding of youth development principles and best practices.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
Work Schedule
Hours are typically 9 or 10 am – 5 or 6pm Monday through Friday with some flexibility. We are an out-of-school-time program so occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
Additional Info
The Mentor Coordinator is a full-time, exempt position, reporting to the Director of Operations. Starting pay is dependent on experience and qualifications. Benefits include fully paid health insurance (medical) for employee; 3+ weeks of vacation; personal leave; and 401k with employer match after 1 year.
