Organization: Mental Health Association, serving Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties
Location: Warrenton, Virginia
Type: Full-time, semi-flexible hours partially remote
Salary: $42,000 – $52,000 depending on experience
Supervisor: Executive Director
Travel: Locally within the Northern Piedmont region, primarily Fauquier, Rappahannock, and
Culpeper.
About the the Mental Health Association of Fauquier County
The Mental Health Association of Fauquier County (MHAFC) is a grassroots, nonprofit
organization that promotes and facilitates mental health wellness in Fauquier and
Rappahannock counties. MHAFC seeks to be a catalyst for change by collaborating with many
other local organizations and engaging the whole community to promote mental wellness for all.
About the Position
The communication and outreach manager’s primary role is to work in conjunction with and
support the executive director in fulfilling the vision and mission of the organization. This
position will be responsible for reviewing and updating the organization’s communications plan
on an annual basis, developing website, newsletter and article content, creating presentations,
engaging in collaborative efforts with community partners, writing and submitting grants on an
as-needed basis, and conducting other administrative tasks as needed. Below is the summary
of general duties, but it is not an exhaustive list:
Job Duties
Outreach/Marketing (75%)
● Develop and enact outreach strategies that include traditional marketing channels, social
media, community presentations, newsletters, the website and local media.
● Maintain MHAFC’s website by updating individual page content, evaluating the website
structure on an ongoing basis, writing articles for the blog, and updating digitally
formatted content available for public download and distribution, such as the Provider
Listing and the Resources for Individuals Impacted by Suicide documents.
● Generate editorial content for the monthly newsletter, interview and write articles for the
newsletter inclusion and take pictures. Proof the monthly newsletter and distribute per
the communications plan.
● Develop and maintain relationships with local media professionals.
● Write articles on a variety of mental wellness topics throughout the year for local media,
and press releases for events and special news from the organization and its community
partners.
● Develop and design marketing materials to promote MHAFC and its programs and
events.
● Design and create social media graphics for posting, graphics and images for use with
online articles and use in the monthly newsletter and other email campaigns.
● Create, proof and send out monthly newsletters, and create, proof and send out email
campaigns for special events, monthly Lunch & Learns, and donor communications, as
needed.
● Track and review analytics for social media posts, website content, newsletter
engagement, and email campaign engagement.
● Work with community groups and businesses to schedule and present educational
programs as they relate to mental wellbeing.
● Create, design and write the annual report, update and maintain the donor database.
This includes all production activity associated with the annual report – obtaining
estimates, ensuring the publication is sent to the printer in a timely manner and ensuring
that the publication is printed correctly, and then uploaded in a digital format that can be
downloaded on the website. This also includes organizing the process of mailing out the
annual report with input from the executive director and the board of directors.
● Collaborate with the programs and events manager to promote and disseminate details
on upcoming programs and events. This includes creating new and updating existing
events on the website, creating graphics for social media, website and community
partners, and social media posts for events and adhering to the communications plan on
timeline for dissemination/marketing of events, providing event details and graphics to
community partners.
Administrative Support (25%)
● Schedule internal and external stakeholder meetings and any training as needed.
● Take notes at MHAFC committee meetings and stakeholder meetings as assigned.
● Maintain and add/remove emails from the email database. Ensure the general gmail
contact list you have is updated and tagged for specific committees for group email
sends.
● Assist in processing mail, bills, payments, donations, and large mailings.
● Update the provider listing on a bi-annual basis.
● Update the donor list with input from the board and executive director on an annual
basis.
● Assist with coordination of fundraisers and events.
● Participate with the onboarding of new staff members.
Skills Required
Requirements
To apply for this position, an individual must meet the following criteria:
● Bachelor’s degree in mental health, communication, nonprofit management, or related
area of study.
● Previous experience writing, editing printed communications material, resource booklets,
annual reports, website content, newsletter content, developing educational
presentations, overseeing programs, and/or nonprofit outreach.
● Willingness to be certified as a Mental Health First Aid instructor.
● Skilled communicator with ability to present and collaborate with diverse groups and
organizations, the press, volunteers, donors, and the general public.
● Experience planning and executing an editorial schedule for newsletters, scheduling
meetings, workshops, and conferences.
● Be able to deal with and hold sensitive information confidential.
● Have a valid driver’s license.
● Have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
● Present materials and one’s own self in a professional manner.
● Prior experience in the mental health or healthcare field.
● Additionally, the ideal candidate will have local knowledge of Fauquier and
Rappahannock Counties, ability to speak English and Spanish, and have experience
managing software applications such as:

○ Google
○ Microsoft
○ Zoom
