Common Ground Healing Arts Seeks Interim Executive Director
Common Ground Healing Arts is a nonprofit wellness center located in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. Our mission is to improve community wellness by providing complementary healthcare services that are accessible, affordable, and grounded in principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In partnership with other local organizations, we offer yoga, acupuncture, massage, and meditation, with programming targeted to communities historically affected by healthcare inequities including our BIPOC, latinx, differently-abled, and LGBTQ+ neighbors. We seek a transitional Executive Director to serve part-time for one year, with the option to extend that term and grow the position to full-time contingent upon funding and board approval.
Interim Executive Director
Reporting to and working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will represent Common Ground Healing Arts (CG) to the community and will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Common Ground’s staff, volunteers, programs, and achievement of its mission and financial objectives. Seeking an enthusiastic Interim ED who welcomes the opportunity to actively participate in the post-pandemic reformation of the organization.
Responsibilities:
General
- Active participation in strategic planning, management, and day-to-day administrative operations of CG during the reformation and redevelopment of the organization
- Supervision, engagement, and evaluation of staff and volunteers
- Support and work closely with Board of Directors
- Outreach and collaboration with current and new CG partners
- Develop and design programs aligned with CG’s mission and to increase sustainability
- Manage relationships with CG’s healing arts practitioners and instructors
- Represent the programs and CG’s mission to agencies, organizations, the media, and the general public
- Ensure effective implementation of systems to track client demographics and program impact
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant trends and developments in the healing arts field
- Promote and encourage health, wellness, and life balance among staff, volunteers, and the Board
Marketing/Outreach
- Work with consultants, board and staff to develop and implement a marketing plan
- Provide regular, ongoing outreach and communications via print, social media, in-person and through media sources
- Regularly seek out and engage with potential partners, practitioners, supporters and volunteers
Development
- Work with the Board, to develop and implement a resource development plan
- Source, track and engage new sources of grants, major gifts and fundraising activities
Board Relations
- Collaborate with board to create a new strategic plan for 2020/21; work in unison with Board and Staff to achieve strategic goals
- Keep in regular communication with the Board on the organization’s status, daily activities and developments
- Attend board meetings
- Attend monthly one-on-one meeting with Board Liaison
- Review budget vs. actuals with Board Treasurer
Qualifications
Required:

- Previous nonprofit management experience
- Fiscal management
- Administrative experience
- Positive thinker, flexible, responsible, and creative problem-solver
- Experienced with MS Office tools
- Educational background in health, education, social work, business, or related fields
- Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to inclusion, equity, and access
Preferred:
- Knowledge of greater Charlottesville community
- Fundraising and resource development experience
- Previous staff supervision experience
- Previous experience or familiarity with health care fields and healing arts modalities such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and massage
Salary:
Flexible depending on applicant qualifications; beginning at $35,000/yr
