Description

The Executive Director is the key management and leadership position of the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing donor fundraising and organizational fundraising, administration, programs, and strategic goals. Close collaboration with the Blue Ridge Parkway regarding programs and projects is required. Hiring staff and ensuring staff positions including grant writing are achieved at a high standard to accomplish the mission and goals of the Organization.

Job Duties

  • Reports to, and works closely with, the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  • Supervises, collaborates with staff, setting objectives to reach the organization’s strategic goals annually.
  • Ensures the financial health of the organization.
  • Serves as the primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public.
  • Establishes employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the organization.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chapters, various organizations and utilizes those relationships to strategically enhance the organization’s mission.
  • Sets and implements strategic goals.
  • Oversees marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Reviews and approves contracts for services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Three or more years senior (nonprofit) management experience
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Ability to convey a vision of the organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, and donors
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate Board members and other volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability
