Summary:
The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for the organization’s daily financial activities, with primary focus on revenue-related transactions. This role ensures that financial operations are accurate, timely, and compliant with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Director of Finance supports the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the finance team through transaction review, financial reporting, process improvement, and staff training. The position also plays a key role in committee participation and identifying opportunities for operational improvements. The Assistant Director of Finance reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:
-Maintain day-to-day finance and accounting activities, including general ledger, revenue, accounts receivable, fixed assets, grant funds, payroll, and month and year-end close.
-Prepare and analyze regular finance reports for management and the organization.
-Ensure monthly reconciliation of revenue, including donation, pledge, grant, and membership revenue, in alignment with BGCCVA reconciliation procedures.
-Conduct a regular review of online bank information to verify EFT payments and receipts before month-end close.
-Coordinate the financial aspects of the grant tracking process, including leading the weekly grant meetings.
-Ensure accurate tracking of grants receivable and restricted grant revenue; oversee the accuracy of the grant audit file.
-Support the CFO with annual budget preparation, including creating a budget report and preparing draft budgets.
-Develop and implement streamlined financial processes in conjunction with the CFO and finance team to ensure the integrity, accuracy, compliance, and usefulness of the organization’s financial information.
-Collaborate with the finance team to identify organizational training needs and create and deliver staff trainings on the organization’s financial procedures.
-Assist with all accounting aspects of the annual audit process.
-Establish and maintain relationships with committee members, unit board members, board members, and external partners.
-Participate in Audit, Finance, Facilities, and Investment Committees; responsibilities may include presenting information, taking minutes, scheduling meetings, and distributing materials.
-Manage all aspects of the BGCCVA Educational Foundation, including monthly bank reconciliation, board member communication, and presenting materials at the annual meeting.
-Develop strategic partnerships with local, state, and national non-profit finance leaders, including BGCA.
-Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote a human-centered organizational culture.

Skills Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Strong understanding of GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles
-Strong attention to detail
-Strong oral and written communication skills
-Strong interpersonal skills
-Ability to implement knowledge of finance and accounting principles and communicate financial data to a diverse group of people
-Proficiency in Excel and various accounting software

Education:
-Must be 18 years or older
-1-2 years of experience in not-for-profit finance
-Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related degree, or equivalent work experience

-Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and reading extensively
-Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
-Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 75% of the workday
