The Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE), in partnership with Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia and Ryan Ripperton of Ryan Ripperton Consulting, is pleased to offer this Strategic Planning Cohort program.

Strategic planning is a crucial process for healthy nonprofits. This program will guide participants through a strategic thinking and planning process resulting in a 3-year strategic plan. Ryan along with consultants Shantell Chambliss and Cheryl Groce-Wright will coach organizations to:

  • Collect data from key stakeholders
  • Identify themes and priorities
  • Craft goals and strategies
  • Develop tactics to achieve those goals and strategies
  • Create an implementation plan which ensures the goals and strategies drive decision-making for staff and board

  • Eligibility and Expectations
    • A team of 2-4 individuals participating from your organization with at least 1 board member
    • Attendance by all team members at each of the 5 cohort sessions in person at Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia.
    • Team leaders only are asked to attend an orientation session on August 27th, 2026 
    • Completion of 5-8 hours of work each month in between sessions. You will have a strategy coach to guide you, but you must have the capacity to engage in the assigned work activities.

    • January 21, 2027, from 9:30 am-12:30 pm
    • (Snow back-up date) January 28, 2027 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
    • March 11, 2027 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm
