Description

As an award-winning community journalist with a quarter-century of experience, I have decided it's time to strike out on my own once again to provide a much-needed service for nonprofit organizations in Central Virginia. I have the research, writing, editing, photography and design skills to help your nonprofit apply for much-needed grant money or just get the word out to the community. I've also been recognized for cutting through the clutter in social media and making my voice stand out. I am always up for a challenge. In 1995, recognizing the need for a community-oriented newspaper in the tourist town of Branson, Mo., I started a successful weekly newspaper, The Taney County Times, and gave a neglected area a sense of community. During that time, I was honored for helping establish a Boys and Girls Club that was desperately needed in a rural area. In addition, I received the Honorary Chapter Degree from the Forsyth High School Future Farmers of America — the highest degree a nonmember can receive. Also received a Missouri Press Association award for Investigative Reporting. (While I sold that paper in 2000, it is still going strong.) Those are just a few examples of the dedication I have to a cause. If I can help your organization grow, it will help my hone my skills in grant writing and communication. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved.
