Member Spotlight: City Schoolyard Garden
Founded in 2009, City Schoolyard Garden cultivates academic achievement, health, environmental stewardship and community engagement through garden-based experiential learning in Charlottesville City Schools. Harnessing students' innate curiosity and the garden's natural fit as a classroom, CSG develops lesson plans and curricula that enhance students' academic experience while exposing them to the joys of gardening, the rewards of healthy eating, and the delight of spending time outdoors. CSG currently has a thriving flagship garden at Buford Middle School, with gardens in development at all six Charlottesville elementary schools. In addition to providing curriculum and direct instruction in the garden, CSG also manages after-school gardening and cooking clubs, as well as summer programs for Boys & Girls Club youth and Charlottesville Parks & Recreation camps.
