Member Spotlight: Better World Betty
Better World Betty is the local go-to organization for all things sustainability-related! Our mission is to help people and businesses with the tools they need to be more sustainable.
Recently Better World Betty and LEAP ran the first ever Charlottesville Area Better Business Challenge, a friendly points-based competition aimed at helping businesses increase their efficiency through sustainability measures across the sectors of energy, water, waste, transportation and purchasing. We had 107 businesses registered to compete-each seeking to increase their efficiency and resilience! Online resources and spotlights and more information can be found at www.cvillebetterbiz.org.
The Challenge received community-wide recognition on television and in our daily and weekly newspapers. We held six successful Lunch n’ Learn trainings and over a dozen networking events with a combined attendance of more than 500.
Regular outreach efforts include community appearances on local radio “the Betty show,” the website green resource for Charlottesville www.betterworldbetty.org which includes how to recycle anything and everything here locally as well as a list of businesses who are doing their part, a monthly column in the Charlottesville Abode Magazine and Charlottesville Family Magazine, Better World Betty BRAG (Betty Recognizes Acts of Greenness) Campaign, and various public outreach events and talks including UVA and Charlottesville Earth Day.
Better World Betty is a program of the United Charitable Programs, a 501 3(c).
